Pre 2018 facelift L494s sit on the older JLR security platform and are typically finished in 5 to 10 minutes for a spare key and 20 to 40 minutes for an all keys lost callout on a locked car. Post 2018 facelift L494s moved to the newer security architecture and take 10 to 20 minutes for a spare and around 40 minutes for an all keys lost lockout. Either way we attend on site with dealer level JLR diagnostic kit and finish in well under an hour in almost every case.
Do I need to show V5 logbook or proof of ownership before you can programme an L494 key?
Yes. For all keys lost work we always confirm proof of ownership before programming, normally the V5C and a photo ID. For a spare key job where you already have a working remote we still verify ownership matches the address. This protects honest L494 owners from anyone trying to add keys to a vehicle they do not own.
My L494 fob is damaged but my keys are not actually lost, do you still need to wipe everything?
No. As long as you still have one working L494 fob the security module stays untouched. We supply a fresh paired spare to take the place of the damaged remote, with no impact on any of your other keys. Smart keys have an effective service life of around 8 years and our policy is replacement rather than repair, because a fob already showing intermittent issues almost always returns with the same fault if it is repaired.
My L494 has had a previous key attempt that did not work, can you put it right?
Yes. L494s sometimes arrive with part paired or incorrectly cleared key data from previous attempts, particularly on the older 2013 to 2017 cars. We clear the immobiliser and security module on site and start fresh with the correct virgin remotes, so a botched earlier attempt does not stop us finishing the job.
Will the air suspension, Terrain Response or P400e charging schedules reset when a new key is paired?
No. Air suspension ride height, Terrain Response 2 calibration, P400e plug in hybrid charging schedules and HVAC memory all sit on separate modules from the security side. Adding a fresh remote does not touch any of them, so the car drives away exactly as it arrived.
