The Jaguar I-PACE was Jaguar’s first all electric SUV, on sale from 2018 right through to 2026 and built on a bespoke aluminium platform unique to the model. Like the rest of the modern JLR range it sits behind a fully encrypted security system, which means a lost or damaged I-PACE key cannot simply be sorted at a high street locksmith. The two routes that actually deliver a working key are a main Jaguar dealership and AJ Auto. We carry the correct JLR diagnostic kit and virgin keys for every model year of the I-PACE and supply spare keys, full replacement remotes and complete all keys lost recovery anywhere in the UK. Our technicians come to you, programme the key on the spot and have you back in the car the same day in almost every case, with no lock module replacement and no need to recover the vehicle.
For an I-PACE spare key or a replacement for a lost or damaged fob, we attend your home, workplace or wherever the car is parked and programme the new key in front of you. Your existing keys keep working alongside the new one, the central locking and alarm are left untouched and there is no need to swap out the security module to bring a fresh remote onto the car.
For an all keys lost callout we bypass the requirement for a working key by accessing the immobiliser and security modules directly, clearing the old key data and programming new remotes on site, so the car never needs to be flat bedded to a dealer. We always leave at least two working keys before we go, every remote we supply fully supports keyless entry, push button start and the proximity locking the I-PACE came with, and parts and labour come with a 12 month warranty. The price is agreed up front before we set off.
The I-PACE has used the same smart proximity remote with passive entry and push button start since launch in 2018. The remote is bound tightly to the Keyless Vehicle Module on each car, which is why a generic shell from a parts site will not work — the new fob has to be virgin coded and paired through encrypted JLR diagnostics. We carry virgin remotes in the van for every model year from 2018 right through to 2026, so there is no waiting for a part to arrive.
Most of our I-PACE callouts come down to a flat key cell left too long in a kitchen drawer, a key dropped into water, or the inevitable loss of a single fob from a household with two drivers. The realistic alternative is a main Jaguar dealer, but that route involves a workshop slot wait of one to two weeks and recovery costs if the car is stranded. Coming to you and finishing the same day removes all of that.
Jaguar I-PACE key programming uses the same JLR encrypted diagnostic protocol as the petrol and diesel Jaguar range, but the I-PACE adds one layer of complexity — the 12V auxiliary battery that powers all body electronics is separate from the high voltage drive battery. Even a fully charged I-PACE can refuse key programming if the 12V auxiliary is weak, because the Body Control Module and Keyless Vehicle Module both pull from it. We check 12V health before every programming session and, if needed, support it with a booster pack during the authorisation sequence to ensure the modules stay online throughout.
The programming itself involves authenticating with the Keyless Vehicle Module (KVM) and the Body Control Module (BCM) using genuine JLR dealer-level software. For a spare key we are typically finished in 10 to 20 minutes. For a full all keys lost reset, where existing key records are erased before the new fob is paired, allow around 40 minutes. All of this happens on site next to your I-PACE — no towing, no dealership waiting list.
Every Jaguar I-PACE is supplied with a Key Card alongside the smart fobs. The Key Card is a credit card-sized plastic card containing an NFC chip that communicates with the car the same way a fob does, but without any battery of its own. To unlock the I-PACE using the Key Card, hold it against the door handle sensor area and the car will unlock. To start the engine, sit in the car, hold the Key Card against the start button and press the brake pedal simultaneously — the NFC point at the start button reads the card data and allows the car to start.
The Key Card is useful as a backup if both smart fobs are flat or unavailable, but it cannot be used for passive keyless entry or walk-away locking because it has no transmitter. If your Key Card has been lost or damaged, we can programme a replacement. A Key Card is paired to the vehicle using the same JLR diagnostic process as a smart fob, so it cannot be programmed with a generic tool. We carry replacement I-PACE Key Cards and programme them on site during the same visit as any fob work.

Key programming on the I-PACE works on the 12V auxiliary circuit only and has no involvement with the high voltage drive system. Yes. A weak 12V causes the Body Control Module to desync from the security side, producing random key dropout, intermittent lock failures and false immobiliser warnings. We always check 12V battery health on every I-PACE callout because keeping it healthy is the single most reliable way to avoid recurring key faults.
No, leave the I-PACE on charge. Charging is managed through a completely separate channel from the smart key system, and in fact keeping the car connected helps maintain 12V auxiliary charge during longer security work.
This is a known I-PACE pattern. JLR OTA updates can occasionally change pairing behaviour or trigger a fresh key handshake. In most cases a fresh re-pairing of the existing fobs resolves it without any new hardware. We diagnose on site to confirm whether the issue is the update, the 12V, or a genuine fob fault.
Security module work on the I-PACE is entirely on the 12V side of the car and has no involvement with the high voltage drive system. We attend I-PACE owners regularly where Jaguar has flagged the module, only to clear the lockout on the same visit using specialist tooling with no module work at all. Genuine module failure on an I-PACE is rare — a specialist second opinion first almost always saves unnecessary cost.
