How quickly can you replace a Range Rover Evoque (L551) key on site?

The battery in my L551 key fob is dying, can I just replace it or do I need a new key?
A simple coin cell change is all you need for an Evoque fob with a flat battery, and we cover this without needing to reprogram anything. If the fob still does not respond after a fresh battery the issue is internal to the smart key electronics, and we can supply a replacement L551 fob on the same visit, paired in 10 to 20 minutes.
My L551 is a P300e plug in hybrid, does the charging or low voltage system affect key programming?
No. The P300e PHEV runs the same security architecture as the petrol and diesel L551 variants, so key programming is identical regardless of powertrain. We do recommend the 12 volt auxiliary battery is healthy before we attend, because all JLR security work pulls from that battery rather than the high voltage drive battery.
Will my Pivi Pro user profiles, driver memory and seat positions reset when a new L551 key is paired?
No. Pivi Pro user accounts, individual driver memory positions and HVAC settings sit on different modules from the security side. Adding or replacing a smart key does not touch any of these, so when you walk back to your Evoque after we have finished it is set up exactly as you left it.
The dealer has quoted me a security module replacement on my L551 before they will programme any keys, do I really need to pay for that?
In the vast majority of L551 cases the answer is no. We attend Evoque owners every week who have been told the security module needs swapping out, only to find that specialist JLR tooling clears the lockout and pairs fresh keys without any module work at all. Genuine module failure on the L551 is uncommon. Before paying for a module replacement on the basis of the dealer quote, it is worth getting a second opinion from a JLR specialist.
