Fast Help:
The Jaguar XJ (X351) was on sale from 2010 right through to 2019 and is the last generation of the XJ saloon, built on a fully aluminium chassis and offered in both standard and long wheelbase forms. It uses the fully encrypted JLR security architecture, which is exactly why a lost or damaged X351 key cannot simply be sorted at a high street locksmith. The two routes that actually deliver a working key are a main Jaguar dealership and AJ Auto. We carry the correct JLR diagnostic kit and virgin keys for every model year of the X351, including the supercharged XJR and the long wheelbase Portfolio variants, supplying spare keys, full replacement remotes and complete all keys lost recovery anywhere in the UK. Our technicians come to you, programme the key on the spot and have you back in the car the same day in almost every case, with no lock module replacement and no need to recover the vehicle.
For an X351 XJ spare key or a replacement for a lost or damaged remote, our mobile workshop attends your location with dealer-level JLR diagnostic software and genuine-specification Jaguar smart key hardware. We programme the new remote directly to the Body Control Module on site, confirm keyless entry, push-button start and the alarm all function correctly, and leave your existing keys fully active alongside the new one. No dealer visit or recovery is required.
For all-keys-lost situations on the X351 we carry full BCM reset capability in the van. We clear the old key memory, reinitialise the security system and programme fresh remotes in a single visit. Most X351 XJ jobs finish in under an hour. Parts and programming carry a 12-month warranty and the price is fixed and agreed before we travel.
The X351 Jaguar XJ (2010–2019) uses a smart key system managed through the Body Control Module, with push-button start and passive keyless entry as standard across the range. The X351 was Jaguar’s first XJ built on an aluminium-intensive platform, and its BCM-based key security uses encrypted authentication that is inaccessible to generic OBD programmers and aftermarket Jaguar tools. Correct X351 key programming requires manufacturer-level JLR SDD or Pathfinder diagnostic software with a genuine interface.
Our technicians connect to the X351’s OBD port, read the current BCM security token and write the new remote into the approved key list in an encrypted session. For all-keys-lost scenarios we perform a complete security reset, generate new immobiliser credentials and programme a full set of remotes in one visit. The X351 was produced for a long run and received InControl Touch updates in later model years, but the key security architecture remained consistent throughout. Long-wheelbase (L) and XJR variants all use the same BCM-based system. Spare key programming takes 15 to 25 minutes; all-keys-lost takes 30 to 45 minutes.
How does Jaguar XJ (X351) key programming work and how long does it take?
The X351 pairs remotes through the BCM using JLR’s encrypted authentication protocol. Our technician connects to the OBD port with JLR diagnostic software, reads the current security token and writes the new key into the approved list. A spare key takes 15 to 25 minutes; an all-keys-lost BCM reset and full reprogram takes 30 to 45 minutes at your location.
Does an X351 XJL long-wheelbase use the same key as the standard wheelbase?
Yes. All X351 XJ variants — standard wheelbase, long-wheelbase XJL, XJR and portfolio models — use the same BCM-based smart key system and the same fob hardware. Body length and specification do not affect the key programming system. We carry X351-compatible fobs for all variants and the programming time is identical regardless of which model you have.
My X351 XJ shows a “No Key Detected” message on the instrument panel — what should I do?
A No Key Detected message on the X351 can be caused by a low key battery, a failed BCM antenna, a corrupted key token, or interference from other electronics near the start button. We diagnose on site by reading BCM live data, checking antenna output levels and confirming whether a new battery, re-authentication or a full key replacement is needed.
Can you programme a replacement key for an X351 XJR supercharged?
Yes. The XJR and all performance variants of the X351 use the same BCM-based key system as standard models. Engine specification and trim level do not affect the key programming architecture. We carry X351-compatible hardware for all variants and programme using the same procedure regardless of specification.
Will programming a spare key affect my X351’s existing remotes?
No. Adding a spare key writes it into the BCM’s approved list without modifying or invalidating your current fobs. All existing remotes stay fully active. Only a full BCM reset in an all-keys-lost scenario clears the list, and in that case all new remotes are programmed together in a single session.
Is there a warranty on X351 XJ key programming?
All parts and programming carry a 12-month warranty. If a programmed remote fails within the warranty period, we return to site at no charge. The fixed price quoted by phone covers all labour and hardware with no hidden call-out fees.
We also cover related Jaguar models. If you need a key for the earlier Jaguar XJ (X350/X358), the Jaguar XF (X260), or the Jaguar XK/XKR (X150), our mobile service covers all three alongside the X351.
