Fast Help:
The Jaguar F-Type (X152) is Jaguar’s two seat sports car, on sale from 2013 right through to the final 2025 cars and offered in both Coupe and Convertible body styles. It uses the same fully encrypted JLR security platform as the rest of the modern Jaguar range, which is exactly why a lost or damaged F-Type key cannot simply be sorted at a high street locksmith. The two routes that actually deliver a working key are a main Jaguar dealership and AJ Auto. We carry the correct JLR diagnostic kit and virgin keys for every model year of the X152, including the V6 supercharged, V8 R and SVR variants, supplying spare keys, full replacement remotes and complete all keys lost recovery anywhere in the UK. Our technicians come to you, programme the key on the spot and have you back in the car the same day in almost every case, with no lock module replacement and no need to recover the vehicle.
For an F-Type spare key or a replacement for a lost or damaged fob, we come to you and cut and programme the new key on site. Your existing keys keep working alongside the new one, central locking and the alarm are left untouched and there is no need to swap out the security module to bring a fresh remote onto the car.
For an all keys lost situation we bypass the requirement for a working key by accessing the immobiliser and security modules directly, clearing the old key data and programming new remotes on the spot, so the car never needs to be recovered or towed. Every remote we supply fully supports keyless entry, push button start and the proximity locking the F-Type came with, and we always leave at least two working keys before we go. Parts and labour come with a 12 month warranty, and the price is agreed up front before we set off, so there are no surprises on the day.
The F-Type has used the same smart proximity remote with push button start across its full life from 2013 right through to the final 2025 cars, covering the V6 supercharged petrol, the 5.0 V8 R, the limited SVR and the 4 cylinder Ingenium models. The fob is paired through encrypted JLR diagnostics to the cars Keyless Vehicle Module, which is why generic shells and unlocked aftermarket remotes never work. We stock virgin F-Type remotes for every model year, including the post 2017 facelift cars with the slimmer LED headlights.
Most F-Type callouts are spare keys for a second driver in the household, replacements for a fob lost during a track day or driving event, or remotes damaged by sun bleaching and pocket wear over a long ownership. The realistic alternative to us is a main Jaguar dealer, but with so few F-Type service slots in the country and the car often being someones weekend pride and joy, the dealer route typically means several hundred pounds, one to two weeks of waiting, and the car off the road for the whole period. Our mobile fixed price gets you back on the road the same day.
How quickly can you replace a Jaguar F-Type (X152) key on site?
Pre 2020 facelift F-Types sit on the older JLR security platform and are typically finished in 5 to 10 minutes for a spare key and 20 to 40 minutes for an all keys lost callout on a locked car. Post 2020 facelift F-Types moved to the newer Pivi Pro security architecture and take 10 to 20 minutes for a spare and around 40 minutes for an all keys lost lockout. Either way we attend on site with dealer level JLR diagnostic kit and finish in well under an hour in almost every case.
Does the F-Type Convertible or SVR use a different key from the standard Coupe?
No. Every F-Type body style and trim level shares the same fob hardware and the same programming procedure, from the entry P300 Coupe through to the F-Type R, the SVR and the limited edition variants. Our callout time is identical regardless of whether your F-Type is a Coupe, a Convertible or an R Dynamic, because the key paired to the V8 R is the same as the key paired to the four cylinder version.
My F-Type only does 3,000 miles a year, does the fob last longer because of light use?
No. Smart key service life is time based rather than mileage based, so the fob ages at the same rate whether your F-Type covers 30,000 miles a year or sits in a heated garage all winter. Internal electronics drift and seal degradation happen over calendar time. Most F-Type fobs hit their effective 8 year service life regardless of how lightly the car is used, and proximity unlock and start failures are common around year 9 even on garage queens.
My F-Type is at a track day or private circuit, can you attend a motorsport venue?
Yes. F-Type owners take the car to private circuits, hill climbs and trackside paddock days regularly, and lost or damaged keys at these venues are routine for us. We can attend a motorsport venue or private circuit during open hours, identify the car in the paddock or pit lane, and pair a fresh remote on site. As long as the venue allows visiting service vehicles a typical F-Type all keys lost takes around 40 minutes from arrival.
The dealer says my F-Type needs a security module replacement before any new keys can be paired, even though the car is barely used. Is that genuinely needed on a low mileage car?
Almost never. We attend low mileage F-Types every month where Jaguar has flagged the module as needing replacement, only to clear the lockout on the same visit using specialist JLR tooling without any module work. On a lightly used F-Type the underlying issue is more often a tired 12V battery or a drifted fob from years of dormant storage, both of which we can address without touching the security module. Before agreeing to invasive surgery on a weekend car, a JLR specialist callout almost always identifies whether the module is genuinely faulty or simply needs a fresh pairing handshake.
