Fast Help:
The Jaguar XK and XKR (X150) is Jaguar’s grand tourer, on sale from 2006 right through to 2015 and offered in both Coupe and Convertible body styles. The X150 was the first Jaguar to fully adopt the modern smart proximity key with push button start, which means a lost or damaged remote cannot be sorted at a high street locksmith. The two routes that actually deliver a working key are a main Jaguar dealership and AJ Auto. We carry the correct diagnostic kit and virgin keys for every model year of the X150, including the standard XK, the supercharged XKR and the limited XKR S, supplying spare keys, full replacement remotes and complete all keys lost recovery anywhere in the UK. Our technicians come to you, programme the key on the spot and have you back in the car the same day in almost every case, with no lock module replacement and no need to recover the vehicle.
For an X150 XK or XKR spare key or a replacement for a lost or damaged remote, our mobile workshop attends your location with dealer-level JLR diagnostic software and genuine-specification Jaguar key hardware for the platform. The X150 (2006–2014) uses a 433 MHz smart key with a Body Control Module pairing system, and we carry compatible key fobs for both standard XK and supercharged XKR models in the van. We programme the new remote on site, confirm keyless entry, push-button start and the alarm all operate correctly, and leave your existing keys fully active.
For all-keys-lost situations on the X150 we attend with full BCM reset capability, clear the old key memory and programme fresh remotes in a single visit. No recovery or dealer booking is needed. Parts and programming carry a 12-month warranty and the price is fixed and agreed before we travel.
The X150 Jaguar XK and XKR (2006–2014) use a smart key system managed through the Body Control Module, with push-button start and passive keyless entry as standard across the range. Key programming on the X150 requires manufacturer-level JLR diagnostic software — the BCM uses proprietary encrypted authentication that generic OBD key programmers and aftermarket Jaguar tools cannot access. Our mobile technicians use genuine JLR SDD software with a hardware interface that communicates correctly with the X150 BCM on every generation of the model.
The programming process connects to the X150’s OBD port, reads the current BCM security token, authenticates the new fob and adds it to the approved key list in an encrypted session. For all-keys-lost scenarios we perform a complete security reset, generate new immobiliser credentials and programme a full set of fresh remotes in one visit. The X150 covers the XK coupe and convertible, the XKR supercharged coupe and convertible, and the limited-run XKR-S — all use the same BCM key architecture. Spare key programming takes 15 to 25 minutes; all-keys-lost takes 30 to 45 minutes.
How does Jaguar XK/XKR (X150) key programming work and how long does it take?
The X150 pairs remotes through the BCM using JLR’s encrypted authentication protocol. Our technician connects JLR diagnostic software to the OBD port, reads the current security token and writes the new key into the approved list. A spare key takes 15 to 25 minutes; an all-keys-lost BCM reset and full reprogram takes 30 to 45 minutes at your location.
Does the XKR supercharged use the same key system as the standard XK?
Yes. All X150 variants — XK coupe, XK convertible, XKR coupe, XKR convertible and XKR-S — use the same BCM-based smart key system and the same fob hardware. Engine specification and trim level have no bearing on the key programming architecture. We carry X150-compatible fobs for all variants and the procedure is identical regardless of which model you have.
My X150 XK key fob works for unlocking but push-button start has failed — what could cause this?
If the remote operates central locking but push-button start has stopped working on the X150, the most likely causes are a damaged start button antenna module, a corrupted BCM key token, or a low-battery condition causing the passive start circuit to drop out. We diagnose on site by reading the BCM live data, testing the key signal at the start button receiver and identifying whether re-authentication or a hardware replacement is needed.
Can you programme a key for a limited-run X150 XKR-S?
Yes. The XKR-S uses the same BCM and smart key system as all other X150 variants. Limited-run production status does not affect key programming — the process, hardware and timescales are identical to any other X150 XKR or XK. We carry X150-compatible key fobs suitable for all variants including the XKR-S.
Will programming a spare key affect my existing X150 remotes?
No. Adding a spare writes it into the BCM’s approved list without modifying or invalidating existing fobs. All currently programmed keys remain fully active. Only a full BCM reset in an all-keys-lost scenario clears the approved list, and in that case all new remotes are programmed together in a single session.
Is there a warranty on X150 key programming?
All parts and programming carry a 12-month warranty. If a programmed remote fails within the warranty period, we return to site at no charge. The fixed price quoted by phone covers all labour and hardware with no hidden call-out fees.
We also cover other Jaguar sports and saloon models. If you need a key for the Jaguar F-Type (X152) which succeeded the XK, the Jaguar XJ (X351), or the Jaguar XJ (X350/X358) which shares the same generation platform as the X150, our mobile service covers all three alongside the XK/XKR.
