Launched in 2022 on the same MLA aluminium architecture as the L460 flagship, it brought PIVI Pro, rear wheel steering and a full set of petrol, diesel and plug in hybrid powertrains. With that level of tech comes a security module that simply will not respond to anything other than proper JLR equipment. The two real options for an L461 owner are the main dealer or AJ Auto. Yes. Provided one working key is available, we can add a spare remote during a standard spare-key visit. We always recommend having at least two programmed remotes, and the L461’s Pathfinder-based system allows us to add the second key without affecting the first. If you want to programme both at once we can do so in a single visit.
Does the L461 digital key work with the Land Rover app and can you set it up?
Yes. The L461 supports a digital key via the Land Rover Remote app, which allows a compatible smartphone to unlock and start the vehicle. We can configure or reset digital key access as part of the same callout where we programme physical remotes, using our Pathfinder connection to the vehicle’s Central Gateway.
My L461 shows an “Inactive Key” message on the Pivi Pro screen — what does this mean?
An Inactive Key message on the L461’s Pivi Pro display usually indicates the remote’s UWB token has been revoked or the key has failed to complete a background authentication cycle. This can happen after a battery replacement or following an over-the-air software update. We diagnose on site and either re-authenticate the existing remote or supply and programme a replacement.
Will a software update affect my L461 key programming?
Over-the-air updates on the L461 can occasionally require key re-authentication if the Central Gateway firmware is significantly revised. If your keys stop working after an OTA update, contact us — we can re-authenticate or reprogram via Pathfinder without needing to take the vehicle anywhere.
Is there a warranty on L461 key programming?
Yes. All parts and programming work carry a 12-month warranty. If a remote or digital key configuration fails within the warranty period, we return to site at no charge. The price quoted by phone is all-inclusive with no hidden fees.
