AJ AUTO KEY REPLACEMENT

Range Rover (L322) Key Replacement

The Range Rover L322 ran from 2002 to 2012 and is genuinely interesting from a key programming point of view because it lived through two completely different security generations. Early cars from 2002 to 2005 were built under BMW ownership and run BMW era electronics, while 2006 onwards moved to a Jaguar Land Rover derived security platform that behaves quite differently. AJ Auto carries specialist software and the correct virgin keys for both generations, which makes us one of the very few options outside a main dealer that can properly handle either era. Our mobile technicians cover every model year from 2002 to 2012, attend anywhere in the UK and almost always finish the job the same day with no lock module replacement and no need to recover the vehicle.

Expert Range Rover L322 Key Services

For an L322 spare key or a replacement for a lost or damaged remote, our mobile workshop comes to you with dealer-level JLR diagnostic software and the correct genuine-specification key hardware. The L322 (2002–2012) covers multiple facelifts and key system generations, from early 433 MHz remotes through to later KVM-based smart keys, and our technicians carry compatible hardware for all L322 variants in the van. We pair the new remote on site, confirm central locking and engine start, and leave your existing keys fully active alongside the new one.

For all-keys-lost situations on the L322 we attend with full reset capability, clear the old key memory and programme new remotes in a single visit. No recovery truck or dealer booking is needed. Most L322 jobs are completed in under an hour. All parts and programming carry a 12-month warranty and the price is fixed before we travel.

Range Rover (L322) Key Programming

The L322 Range Rover went through two distinct key security generations during its production run. Early L322 models (2002–2009) used a 433 MHz transponder key paired through the Body Control Module, while post-2010 facelift models adopted a Key Vehicle Module (KVM) architecture with a smart key fob and push-button start. Both systems require manufacturer-level JLR diagnostic software — SDD for the early BCM variants and later SDD or Pathfinder for KVM-equipped models. Generic automotive key programmers cannot access the L322’s proprietary authentication protocols.

Our technicians carry hardware compatible with both L322 security generations. For early models we connect to the BCM via the OBD port, read the existing security token and write the new key into the approved list. For KVM-equipped L322s the process communicates directly with the Key Vehicle Module to authenticate the new fob. In all-keys-lost situations we perform a full security reset and programme fresh remotes from scratch. Early L322 key programming takes 15 to 30 minutes; KVM-based smart key programming on later L322s takes 20 to 40 minutes.

Common Questions for Range Rover (L322) Owners

How does Range Rover (L322) key programming work and how long does it take?
The L322 has two key system generations — pre-2010 BCM-based transponder keys and post-2010 KVM smart keys. Both require JLR diagnostic software to authenticate and programme new remotes. BCM-based programming takes 15 to 30 minutes; KVM smart key programming takes 20 to 40 minutes. All work is completed at your location with no dealer visit required.

Can you programme a key for a pre-facelift L322 with a standard blade key?
Yes. Early L322 models used a flip-style 433 MHz remote with a blade key rather than a push-button smart fob. We carry compatible blade key remotes for pre-facelift L322s and programme them through the BCM using JLR diagnostic software. The programming procedure is the same regardless of whether the vehicle has the older blade remote or the later smart key system.

My L322 key fob works for starting but not locking — can you fix this without replacing the whole key?
If the transponder side of the key is working but the RF transmitter has failed, we can supply a new remote body, transfer or re-pair the transponder and programme it to the vehicle in a single visit. In many cases the blade transponder can be retained and only the remote housing and RF electronics need replacing, which reduces the cost compared to a full key replacement.

Does the L322 with KESSY keyless entry use a different programming process?
L322 models fitted with the optional KESSY keyless entry and start system use the KVM module, which requires the same KVM-based programming process as standard post-2010 L322 smart keys. The KESSY antenna rings in the door handles are separate from the key security module, so if keyless entry stops working but push-button start still functions, we diagnose whether the fault is in the antenna wiring, the KVM or the fob itself.

Will you have the correct parts for my L322 year if it’s an older example?
Yes. We carry L322-compatible key hardware for all production years from 2002 to 2012. Both the pre-facelift 433 MHz blade remotes and the later smart key fobs are stocked in the van. If you have an early L322 with an unusual specification, we verify compatibility on the phone before travelling to confirm we have the right hardware.

Is there a warranty on L322 key programming?
All parts and programming on the L322 carry a 12-month warranty. If a programmed remote fails within the warranty period, we return to site at no charge. The fixed price quoted by phone covers all labour and parts with no hidden call-out fees.

We also cover closely related models. If you need a key for the newer Range Rover (L405) or the latest Range Rover (L460), or the Range Rover Sport (L320) which shares the same generation as the early L322, our mobile service covers all three alongside the L322.
