The Jaguar I-PACE was Jaguar’s first all electric SUV, on sale from 2018 right through to 2026 and built on a bespoke aluminium platform unique to the model. Like the rest of the modern JLR range it sits behind a fully encrypted security system, which means a lost or damaged I-PACE key cannot simply be sorted at a high street locksmith. The two routes that actually deliver a working key are a main Jaguar dealership and AJ Auto. How quickly can you replace a Jaguar I-PACE key on site?

My I-PACE plays up when the 12V is low even though the high voltage drive battery is full, is this affecting the key?
Yes, on the I-PACE the 12V auxiliary battery is more critical than on a combustion car because every body system including the security module and body control module pulls from it directly. A weak 12V causes the body control module to desync from the security side, which produces exactly the random key drop out, intermittent lock and unlock and false immobiliser warnings that I-PACE owners often see. We always check 12V battery health on every I-PACE callout because keeping it healthy is the single most reliable way to avoid recurring key faults on a connected EV.
If my I-PACE is plugged in to a charger when the keys will not work, do I need to disconnect before you attend?
No, leave the I-PACE on charge if that helps preserve the high voltage battery state. We can work on the key and security side with the car connected to a domestic or rapid charger because charging is managed through a separate channel from the smart key system. If anything we sometimes prefer the car connected during longer security work because it ensures the 12V auxiliary stays well topped up while we operate, which avoids the desync issues mentioned above.
My I-PACE had an over the air software update and now the keys behave oddly, did the update break compatibility?
This is genuinely a known I-PACE pattern. JLR over the air updates can occasionally change pairing behaviour or trigger a fresh key handshake, which produces symptoms ranging from delayed unlock to intermittent start refusal. We diagnose this on site to confirm whether the issue is the update, the 12V battery, or a genuine fob fault. In most cases a fresh pairing of the existing fobs resolves it without any new hardware, and we test thoroughly before leaving so you do not see the same fault again the next morning.
My I-PACE has been flagged by Jaguar for a security module replacement, but I am worried about electrical work on an EV. Is that something an independent specialist can really handle?
Yes. Security module work on the I-PACE happens entirely on the 12V side of the car and has no involvement with the high voltage drive system, so it is no more invasive on an EV than on a petrol Jaguar. We attend I-PACE owners every week where Jaguar has flagged the module as needing replacement, only to clear the lockout on the same visit using specialist JLR tooling and pair fresh keys without any module surgery. Genuine module failure on an I-PACE is rare, and the work is confined to the low voltage circuit so no EV specific isolation procedure is required.
