Fast Help:
The Jaguar XJ in X350 and facelifted X358 form was on sale from 2003 right through to 2009 and was the first XJ built on a fully aluminium monocoque chassis. It sits in an interesting place from a key programming point of view because it pre dates the modern smart proximity era and runs an early generation transponder and remote system that most general locksmiths simply do not stock the correct virgin keys for. AJ Auto carries specialist software and the correct virgin keys for both the X350 and the X358, which makes us one of the very few options outside a main Jaguar dealer that can properly handle the platform. Our mobile technicians cover every model year from 2003 to 2009 across all engine variants including the supercharged XJR, attend anywhere in the UK and almost always finish the job the same day with no lock module replacement and no need to recover the vehicle.
For an X350 or X358 spare key or a replacement for a damaged remote, we come to you and cut and programme the new key in front of you. We carry the correct blade types for the platform along with the right diagnostic kit, so the vehicle is ready to drive away the same visit. Your existing keys keep working alongside the new one, central locking is left untouched and there is no need to swap out the security module to bring a fresh remote onto the car.
For an all keys lost situation we bypass the requirement for a working key by accessing the immobiliser and security modules directly, clearing the old key data and programming new remotes on site. We always leave at least two working keys before we go, every remote we supply is fully compatible with the central locking and ignition system, and parts and labour come with a 12 month warranty. The price is agreed up front before we set off, so there are no surprises on the day.
A quick note on the X350 and X358 for owners coming to it for the first time: this generation pre dates the smart proximity era, which means the key is a traditional blade with an embedded transponder rather than a fully button operated remote. That makes the cutting side of the job slightly more involved because the blade needs to match the original lock barrel exactly, and it also means most general locksmiths can supply a blade that mechanically turns the door but cannot start the engine because the transponder side is not paired. We carry the correct virgin transponders for the platform along with the right blade blanks for the door and ignition. The supercharged XJR and the long wheelbase variants are all covered, along with the 2.7 V6 diesel and the petrol V8 cars right through to the 2009 X358 run out.
Why will not a key cut at a high street locksmith start my X350?
The mechanical blade and the transponder chip are two separate jobs. A locksmith can normally cut a blade that turns the door, but the transponder side has to be paired to the X350 immobiliser using the right software, which is the part most general locksmiths cannot do.
Are the X350 and X358 keys the same?
Yes, both use the same blade pattern and the same family of transponder, so a like for like replacement covers either generation.
Can you handle the supercharged XJR?
The XJR uses the same key as the rest of the X350 range, so the procedure and pricing are identical to a standard 4.2 V8 or 2.7 V6 diesel.
I have lost both keys to my X350, do I need to get the car towed?
Not at all. Our technicians attend the car wherever it is parked, talk to the immobiliser directly, clear the existing key data and pair fresh transponders on site.
