What to Do in the First Hour After Losing Your Velar Keys
1. Check the obvious places one more time
Sounds patronising, but ~30% of ‘lost’ keys turn up under sofa cushions, in coat pockets, or in the wash. Look properly before booking a replacement.
2. If you have a spare, find it now
If you have any other working Velar key, you’re in a much cheaper situation. We can clone it or program an additional key for a fraction of an all-keys-lost job.
3. If you have NO working keys, secure the vehicle
Lock the car manually if you can. Don’t leave a Velar in a public car park unsecured — they’re high-value targets.
4. Call us — we come to you
Tell us your reg, ideally your VIN, and roughly where you are. We’ll quote upfront and arrange same-day attendance UK-wide where possible.
How the Replacement Process Works
For a Range Rover Velar (L560, 2017+) with all keys lost, the process takes 60-90 minutes on-site:
- We arrive with mobile programming equipment and a blank Velar key cut to your VIN
- OBD diagnostic confirms BCM communication
- The new key is paired to the BCM as a freshly authorised key
- If you’ve requested it, all previously paired keys are deleted from the BCM (recommended for lost-key situations)
- The new key is tested for: lock, unlock, boot, panic, and engine start
- You’re back on the road
AJ Auto tip: Always delete the lost keys from the BCM as part of any all-keys-lost job. If your old keys are found by the wrong person, they can still unlock the car and (if the immobiliser hasn’t been updated) start it. The BCM delete is a 5-minute add-on that resets your security.
