About the Discovery 5 Key
The L462 uses a proximity smart key with passive entry, push-button start, and remote functions (lock, unlock, boot release, panic). The key chip is the JLR-specific HITAG Pro encrypted transponder. There’s also an emergency mechanical blade hidden inside the fob for the driver’s door.
Common Discovery 5 Key Issues We See
1. Cracked or broken fob casing
L462 fobs use a soft-touch plastic that wears at the seam. Once cracked, water gets in and the electronics die.
2. Stuck or unresponsive buttons
Lock and unlock buttons can fail individually. Sometimes a clean cures it; usually it’s time for a replacement.
3. Smart entry stops working but manual button still does
Door handle sensors or vehicle antennas usually, the key itself is fine.
4. ‘Smart Key Not Detected’ on dash

5. Lost completely
